Summer frolics around the corner, and the sandy beaches beckon.
How do we avoid distraction?
One only needs to detect a “bleep” from their phone for concentration to shatter and focus to be thrown off track. As the summer months approach at breakneck speed, how do we enjoy the time and stay true to our goals?
1. Maximize your time
The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty (Proverbs 21:5 NIV).
In order to spend larger stretches involving fun activities, maximize your time throughout the workday. Take care of one or two things during your lunch break. Save up your errands for rainy days. Make a weekly schedule to ensure you accomplish tasks in a timely fashion instead of cramming at the last minute when there may be something else you’d rather do.
2. Take time to rest
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work (Genesis 2:2).
Though you may aspire to keep moving forward with your plan, it’s okay to relax and take a vacation (even God rested on the seventh day). Get outdoors and enjoy God’s wonderful creation.

3. Plan a new step in your journey
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
Spend time meditating on additional steps or milestones you can create to further your ambition. Be innovative. Enlist the help of others as a fun event with food and fellowship.
4. Find an accountability partner
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
Contact someone who has similar goals or a comparable time frame and partner with them. Have weekly check-ins verifying planned objectives for the week and whether they were accomplished. Supporting each other’s journey is a great way to stay on track.
5. Give yourself incentives
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9).
If you’re finding it really difficult to motivate yourself, set up a reward system. When you reach a certain point, repay yourself with a special treat. Shop, vacation, or dessert your way through the plan in order to push through.
Summer presents a wonder of opportunity and entertainment. As you head out this season, aim for life balance devoting time to your goals and amusements.
